Bioidentical
hormone replacement and Natural hormone replacement
is conceptually similar but what the public perceives
as 'natural' isn't equivalent to 'bioidentical'. The
difference lies in that when people think of 'natural'
they think so long as it's derived from nature, that
the product is 'natural'. For example, phytoestrogens
derived from soy products is perceived by the public
as being 'natural' but it is not bioidentical to human
oestrogen. Bioidentical hormones go one
step further in that the molecular structure of bioidentical
hormones are exactly the same as the hormone
in the human body. Hence in the eyes of the FDA,
bioidentical hormones are 'natural' so therefore it
cannot be patented. In attempting to slap a patent
on it, it would be like saying a particular company
has the rights to your hormones.
This
is where a compounding pharmacy is at its best. A
compounding pharmacy can prepare bioidentical hormones
from your doctor's prescription in different strengths,
concentrations and delivery methods so that you can
get an individualized, customized hormone replacement
treatment to achieve optimal results for you.
